· ΣΑΡΑΤΣΗΣ

Soupliotis · Saratsis

From the plain of Farsala and the slopes of Pelion, through the port of Volos, to Longueuil, Québec.

Three chapters of a journey

Chapter I · Soupli

The name of a village

The paternal surname is the demonym of Soupli, a village in the Farsala district recorded since the nineteenth century and renamed Agia Trias in 1927. Σουπλιώτης means “the man from Soupli.”

Chapter II · Ano Volos

The Pelion cradle

On the slopes of Pelion, Ano Volos became the cradle of the maternal Saratsis line. Its households form the oldest documented cluster now being reconstructed.

Chapter III · Volos → Québec

Across generations

In the early 1900s, the families moved from the villages toward the port of Volos. A later generation crossed the Atlantic and made a new home in Longueuil, Québec.
